English Lake District Daily Briefing for Wednesday 29th October 2008
Updated on Tuesday at 11.40am (from Ambleside)
As I am on holiday in the Lakes I am just including my own photo's. I don't have wireless access so I am afraid updates wont be daily.
Saturday's Lake District Pictures
As no doubt you heard on the national news it is exceptionally wet in the lakes, the Mountain Marathon was abandoned due to the bad weather and many roads were flooded, we had difficulty getting to Troutbeck where we are staying.
I took refuge from the weather in St Michael and all Angels church, Hawkshead

The bad weather was good for some, white water canoing at Clappersgate (near Ambleside)

Sunday's Lake District Pictures

The weather was better on Sunday so we set off for a walk up the Langdale Pikes with our friends who we are on holiday with.

It was a popular walk with families - looking up Stickle Ghyll

Looking over Stickle Tarn to Pavey Ark

Jack's Rake running from top-left to bottom-right, notice the walker in red just about to start the climb. We had intended to break into two parties with the more confident walks climbing up the Rake, however the gusts of wind were so strong we decided against it.

Looking down on Stickle Tarn

I think this is called "Easy Gully", again looking down on Stickle tarn

Another view of Great Langdale, this time as we descend to the cars

He is wondering why our dog is barking and lunging at the end of her lead!
Monday's Lake District Pictures

Today, we decided to visit Lily Tarn on Loughrigg Fell, this is looking down on Windermere on the way up ![]()

Looking down on the floods at Waterhead ![]()

Looking across Loughrigg to the first splattering of snow, just visible on Bowfell (I think)

Tuesday's Lake District Pictures

Not a bad view from our holiday cottage in Troutbeck, a frosty start
Townend at Troutbeck (which unfortuately closed to visitors for the winter on Sunday)

A panoramic view of windermere from the Troutbeck to Ambleside road at about 10.30am
