Slight Side plane crash

Airplane wreckage near Slight Side's summit. A memorial plaque can just be seen at the bottom of the cross.

This memorial remembers two young polish pilots who crashed here in thick cloud on the 12th August 1941 whilst on a training flight.

Loweswater Cam - The Hiley's have a very early morning to marshall a charity walk up Scafell (Route: Seathwaite, Grains Gill, Esk Hause, Calf Cove, Broad Crag, Ill Crag, Scafell Pike and back along the same route visiting Ill Crag on the way)
