The is a female Long Horn beatle commonly known as "The Tanner". It is a very large beatle at 5cm long, this excludes the long 'sting' which is it's egg laying tube or ovipositor ( it lays it's eggs in rotten wood). I found it at The Sands, Farnham, Surrey. The latin name is Prionus coriarius [Saturday 23/8/2008, my own picture]

Olympic handover on Scafell Pike by Sir Chris Bonington

Sir Chris has flown the Olympic flag at Scafell Pike to mark the handover for London 2012. He was joined by fell running legend Joss Naylor, 72, and Maryport distance runner Laura Naylor, 16. Communities across the UK are flying the Olympic flag as London takes over host city status.
