Knipescar Common Cumbria

Limestone pavement on the top of Knipescar Common, near Haweswater [5/8/2008 by Andrew Leaney]

Described by Wainwright in 1974 as "The scar itself consists of no more than minor outcrops on a horizontal plane but the flat top is a green sward interlaced in parts by weathered Limestone, with unexpectedly, a scattering of 'foreign boulders' left there by a retreating glacier.

Carling Knott
