Great Cockup

Descending to Trusmadoor with Great Cockup ahead, Uldale Fells [30/5/2008 by David and Edith Brown]

Wainwright described Great Cockup as "Viewed from a distance Great Cockup appears as a modest but extensive eminence with no obvious summit and nothing calling for closer inspection. First impressions are confirmed by a tour of exploration"

It is title "Great" to distinguish it from its smaller neighbour Little Cockup.

It was visited by Denis Norden in 1996 for the TV show It’ll Be Alright on the Night (which consists of out-takes from film and television which he calls "Cockups"). There is also a local beer brewed by the Hesket Newmarket Brewery, called "Great Cockup Porter".

Why not do something amazing today?

No, I am not talking about something as painful as giving blood! Why not make a small donation to the charity WaterAid. Just £15 can provide one person with a lasting supply of safe, clean water. Our ambitious fundraising target of £3210 is calculated to help one person for each of Wainwright's 214 fells!. Find out more and make a small donation
