Antique Lake District Maps
This map is dated 1827 and comes from "The District of the Lakes" by Jonathan Otley, you can also view a large scale version.
Jonathan Otley was born in Loughrigg on 19th January 1766 and died at Keswick on 7th December 1856. Apart from making maps he was a geologist, watch mender and a meteorologist who invented a rain gauge.

View this It is interesting to compare this portion of the map with the modern map, you can see it shows the village of Mardale Green which was flooded in 1935 when Hawes Water was turning into a Reservoir. |
